But, seriously, can you fly to Russia right now, in 2023? Of course you can, you just need to know where to search for your flights!

As I already wrote in this article, things in Russia have changed a lot over the past year. Among other things, Russian airspace was closed for flights coming from Europe, the US and many other countries. However, it’s still possible to fly to Russia in 2023.

Many people think you cannot fly to Russia due to the fact that Expedia, Skyscanner as well as other flight aggregators stopped showing Russia as a destination. In reality, flights from abroad are landing to Moscow, Saint Petersburg and many other cities are still landing on a daily basis.

In this article, I’ll show you how to find flights to Russia in 2023. Let’s go!

Can you fly to Russia

Can you fly to Russia right now? Introduction

Right after everything started in 2022 and the Russian airspace was closed, the only way to get into Russia by plane was through Turkey and Dubai. Needless to say, the prices were unhinged.

Thankfully, a lot has changed this year and we now have many more countries where we can catch a flight to Russia or stop over, and at much cheaper prices.

I want to clarify that the rules for entering the Russian Federation have not changed! Anyone with a valid Russian visa, be it a tourist, business or work visa, can enter.

The BEST way to search for flights to Russia

Closing the airspace was not enough.

Shortly after the news broke, major international flight search engines such as Skyscanner, Expedia and Momondo decided to sweep off Russia from their map of the world.

Luckily, Aviasales exists!

Aviasales is basically the same thing as Skyscanner, but it’s a Russian company and thus it still shows major Russian cities as a destination.

Please, pay attention! There are two versions of Aviasales. Aviasales.ru allows you to pay with a Russian card. Avialases.com allows you to pay with a foreign card. This is the only difference. Also, I think that depending on the country you access from, you will be directed directly to the right version.

Flights to Russia (and vice versa) that I took

If you read some other posts on my blog, you may already know that I’m Italian. In 2022, I used to go back to Italy through Estonia and Finland by bus from Saint Petersburg.

Then, finally, some airlines have decided to provide me with quicker and more comfortable solutionsto reach Milan.

Wizz air – Yerevan

In my opinion, this is the best option to fly to Russia in 2023 for three reasons:

1) Wizz Air is a low cost company and tickets are cheap!

2) There are at least two flights a week to Yerevan from Milan, Rome, Venice, etc.

3) Yerevan is a beautiful city! Very lively, welcoming, with a lot of clubs, restaurants, things to do and see. It is definitely worth a visit even if it is just for a short stopover.

From Yerevan, then, you have many airlines and daily flights to choose from to get to Russia. Of course, you can find the flights on Aviasales.

Azerbaijan Airlines – Baku

If you are looking for flights to Russia, the other possibility that I have taken advantage of more than once is to fly Azerbaijan Airlines through Baku.

From Milan, there are three flights a week to Moscow with a stopover in the fantastic airport of the capital of Azerbaijan.

Unfortunately, the layover is always short, about 4 hours, so I never had time to visit the city.

Can you fly to Russia right now from other countries?

Of course, there are other countries that allow you to reach Russia by plane: Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Georgia, for example.

Georgia has just reopened direct flights with Russia. For those who are in the East it is easier: you can fly through Kazakhstan, China or Korea, for example, or India and Sri Lanka.

If you are looking for a flight to Russia, you can find and buy it on Aviasales.
